Fire Service Week, to be observed from 14th to 20th April, 2026, is an important occasion to reinforce awareness about fire prevention, preparedness, and emergency response across Jammu & Kashmir. The observance of this week reminds us of our shared responsibility towards safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure. On Fire Service Day (14th April), we pay our solemn tributes to the brave firefighters who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their supreme sacrifice, unwavering courage, and spirit of service remain a source of inspiration for all. I place on record my deep appreciation for the dedicated and professional services rendered by the Fire & Emergency Services, J&K. The department has consistently demonstrated prompt response, operational efficiency, and commendable commitment in handling fire incidents, rescue operations, and other emergencies across the Union Territory. Their proactive initiatives in conducting mock drills, public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programmes are instrumental in enhancing community preparedness and resilience. The theme for this year, "Safe School, Safe Hospital & Fire Safety Aware Society - Together for Fire Prevention," underscores the importance of prioritizing fire safety in vital public institutions and promoting a culture of prevention at all levels. Fire safety is a collective responsibility. I urge all citizens, institutions, and stakeholders to actively participate in Fire Service Week activities and adopt necessary safety measures in their daily lives. Let us join hands to build a safer, more prepared, and resilient Jammu & Kashmir. Chief Secretary Jammu & Kashmir
