ERA for better water supply network

J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) is initiating strenuous efforts for proper hydraulic modeling, reorientation of roads network, lanes and sewerage system for ensuring a proper and systematic water supply in a phased manner.
This was informed at a meeting of ERA with the functionaries of Public Health Engineering Department held to chalk out multi-pronged strategies for further streamlining of water supply system in the city. Chief Executive Officer, Economic Reconstruction Agency Vijay Bakaya chaired the meeting.
MLA Raman Bhalla highlighted the burning demand of Jammuties for construction of Fly over from Vikram Chowk to Women college/Green belt park Gandhi Nagar, 8-Laning of road from Kunjwani to Satwari and Satwari to Bikram Chowk apart from the proposal of ERA, he urged to add one each more tube well at Nanak Nagar and Deep Nagar, 9-over head water tanks and 12 Sub-tanks (reservoirs) for raising the storage capacity of the drinking water.
During the meeting it was revealed that 25 new tube wells will be bored in Gandhi Nagar area while as 27 in the old city. Out of which, 1 tube well has already been completed and remaining 24 expected to be completed in a year. Besides in old city, it will take 15 months to complete all the 27 Nos of tube wells. Treatment plant Boria below Bahu-Fort would be constructed at cost of Rs. 11 crore. These all civil works would be under taken under Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded project.
It was revealed the meeting that PHE department has submitted Rs. 43 crore project for replacement of worn out water pipes from Jammu city.
Expressing satisfaction over the assistance and cooperation being extended by the PHE department, Bakaya said that the process will help this vital department in maintaining the distribution system which will further ensure potable drinking water to the people. He also urged upon the department to provide complete information in respect of leaking pipes especially in the old city where the pipes are passing through storm water drains so that the efforts of ERA could meet its logical end.
MLA Yogesh Sawhney also projected the demand of his constituency especially construction of public toilet at Chabeel Wali Gali, sewerage work at Raghunath Bazar and Bakshi Nagar construction of sewerage treatment plant for its affluent discharge into the Tawi river.
The proposal of construction of Fly over from Jewel Chowk to Canal Road, Akhnoor and Bhagwati Nagar was also discussed. VC JDA Ashok Parmar under lined the need to revamp the entire traffic system by use of all the newly constructed flyovers especially by the matadors. For the public convenience though at certain spots along the fly over staircases need to be constructed to ease the traffic congestion.
The Matter on account of anti –encroachment drive required to be geared up especially along the Ranbir Canal to Rs Pura where 1500 encroachments prevails. This was also endorsed by DDC Jammu Hirdesh Kumar Singh.
Among others attended the meeting Director ERA R. K Handa, Chief Engineer PHE V. K Goswami, Municipal Commissioner Jammu Vinod Sharma, SE PHE V. K Puri and Joint Director of Information S. K Sharma.
