| Panthers lose cabinet post owing clash of egos between Harsh Dev and Bhim Singh | | |
Jammu,September 24 :- The Panthers Party,headed by Prof. Bhim Singh,continues to be a divided house because of lack of union of hearts between him and Mr Harsh Devi Singh,a former Education Minister.
What seems to amuse the supporters of Mr Harsh Dev Singh is that Prof. Bhim Singh,despite being a coalition partner,functioned as an opposition leader when Mr Harsh Dev was a member of the cabinet headed by Mufti Mohd.Sayeed.And when Harsh is out of the cabinet Bhim Singh has adopted a pro-coalition stance,especially the pro-congress postures.
So long Prof. Singh ,accoring to some panthers Party workers, saw that the graph of popularity of Harsh Dev,as Education Minister,witnessed an upward curve he (Prof.Singh) went on predicting midterm poll.Right from 2003 he had started saying that the coalition Government will break anytime to be followed by midterm election.
And when Harsh Dev Singh fresh elections and reduction of the term of the Assembly from six to five years Prof. Singh opposed it and said that the suggestion of harsh Dev on reducing the term of the Assembly was his personal and not party opinion.
But sources close to Harsh Dev said that he had suggested fresh poll in the context of the political crisis that had been kicked up by the conflict between the two main coalition partners,the Congress and the PDP.He had stated that since the two main partners of the ruling coalition were on a collision course the better way was to go in for fresh elections.
Regarding his suggestion for reducing the term of the Assembly from six to five years Harsh Dev wanted to bring Jammu and Kashmir at a par with the system prevalent in other states in India.
Inside reports said that as a result of clash of egos between Prof. Singh and Mr Harsh Dev the Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad,could not induct any MLA from the Panthers Party in his cabinet.If left to Mr Azad he would like Mr Harsh Dev to be in the cabinet but the Panthers Party supreme has not cleared the name of Harsh Dev.These reports said that prof.Bhim Singh,who is a member of the Legislative Council,wanted to get a berth in the cabinet.Mr Azad has not so far been able to oblige Prof. Singh because several senior Congress leaders have conveyed to Mr Azad that as a cabinet Minister Prof. Bhim Singh could pose problems for the Government as he relished his role as an effective opposition leader.
However,Mr Harsh Dev Singh is not,according to sources close to him,is not prepared to part company with Prof. Singh because the party supreme has,during the last three years put in great efforts for strengthening the Panthers Party in various areas of the Jammu region.Harsh Dev and his supporters seem to be aware of the potential of Prof.Singh who carries some charisma among people in Udhampur district and Reasi,and some areas in Jammu and Kathua districts.
Majority of supporters of Panthers Party favour restoration of the union of hearts between Prof. Singh and Harsh Dev which could enable the party to win more seats in the next Assembly poll.It had,for the first time,won four Assembly seats in 2002 election and the effors of Prof. Singh in enlarging the based of the organization could help it win more than six seats in the next election. |
