Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 20: In line with the 100-day "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan" launched by the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor on April 11 to combat the growing drug menace, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) organised an awareness programme on "Drug Free Jammu Kashmir" in collaboration with the J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM), Purkhoo, Jammu. The campaign, envisioned as a decisive movement against drug abuse, highlights that addiction is not merely an individual issue but a serious societal challenge. It calls for collective action to dismantle drug networks and safeguard the future of the youth.
The programme was organised under the dynamic leadership of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B. N. Tripathi, who personally took a keen and proactive initiative in conceptualising and promoting such awareness activities in alignment with the vision and mission of the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor's "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan." Demonstrating strong institutional leadership, Prof. Tripathi has been consistently advocating for meaningful youth engagement and community outreach programmes that address pressing societal challenges. He has laid special emphasis on sensitising students and young minds about the dangers of drug abuse, recognising them as key stakeholders in shaping a resilient and responsible society. Under his stewardship, SKUAST-Jammu has been actively promoting value-based education, awareness drives, and extension activities aimed at fostering a drug-free environment.
The event was further coordinated under the supervision of Director Students Welfare, Prof. Sudhakar Dwivedi. In his address, Prof. Dwivedi highlighted the alarming rise of drug abuse, particularly in educational institutions and termed it a serious threat to the health, safety and well-being of individuals and society at large.
Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, NSS Coordinator, welcomed the guests and emphasized the crucial role of NSS volunteers in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction on individuals, families and society.
Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta, Medical Officer, SKUAST-Jammu, elaborated on various types of drugs and stressed the importance of awareness among students. He cautioned against falling prey to drug peddlers and advised students to avoid the use of over-the-counter medicines without proper prescription.
