| Railways strengthen security grid | | | Jammu,September 24 :-The security grid on the Jammu railway station and on the track between the state’s winter capital and Pathankot has been further strengthened in view of the Navratra festival having commenced in Jammu and Katra from Saturday. Passengers on all incoming and outgoing trains are subjected to series of checks not only at the time of departure of trains from the Jammu railway station but on the track upto Pathankot. According to Mr D.C.Arya,a senior officer of the Railway Prorection Force,each coach has been provided with adequate security cover.He told Kashmir Independent Press that since “we expect a heavy rush of pilgrims,visiting Mata Vaishnov Devi shrine from various states we have strengthened the security measures.” Another Railways official said that a large number of tourists,most of them foreigners,have started visiting areas in Himachal Pradesh,especially Dharmshalla and men of the RPF and GRPF have been asked to keep a vigil on touts,criminals and militants so that no tourist or pilgrim faced any problem. Mr Arya said that security personnel have been directed to carry out round the clock patrolling on the Jammu railways station and other wayside stations upto Pathankot.They have been asked to ensure that militants were not able to plant explosive matrial on the rail track between Pathankot to Udhampur.He said additional forces have been deployed for ensuring a foolproof security cover for the passengers,including the pilgrims. |
