6/2/2009 11:51:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, JUNE 2: Expressing ‘anguish’ over the mysterious death of two women in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress president and former Union Minister for water resources Prof. Saifuddin Soz Tuesday asked Chief Minister to expedite the judicial probe.

“I express my deepest anguish over the alleged murder of two girls in Shopian under mysterious circumstances. I conveyed my anxiety to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on phone late last evening who assured me that he would leave no stone unturned to bring the culprits to book,” he said .
The Chief Minister, the statement said, responded positively to the suggestion that the judicial enquiry instituted by him should submit the report expeditiously, may be within two weeks.

“I take this opportunity to appeal to the people of the State kindly to appreciate that only a high level enquiry that the Chief Minister has instituted can establish the truth,” he added.

This is the first statement by any Congress leader after the alleged murder of two women, sisters in law, by armed forces on last Saturday.
