Abdullahs have genes to be in power?
6/2/2009 11:52:21 PM
If you ask any medical scientist as to how power flows from great grand parents to the grand children the scientist calls it nothing but the history of genes. It seems so otherwise we in India have had dozens of prime ministers and scores of Chief Ministers right from the day the country achieved freedom from the British rule. And till date we are destined to be ruled by Gandhis,Nehrus,Pawars,Abdullahs,Hoodas,Badals,Karuna Nidhis,Yadavs, Pilots and Scindias and host of others.Political scientists will call it coincidence.Medical experts will call it genetic legacy.Astrologers will call it luck or destiny.Whatever name you like to give to this inherent art of coming to power and losing it you may treat 2008-2009 year very lucky for the Abdullah's in Kashmir valley. It was towards the end of 2008 that the National Conference after winning 27 seats in the Assembly election succeeded in sharing power with the Congress. The PDP,which had won 21 seats in the Assembly, was sure to repeat the experiment it conducted by forming a coalition Government with the Congress in 2002..That Congress-PDP coalition Government had a smooth sailing for the first three years when the Government was headed by Mufti Mohd.Sayeed.However,the relations between the two parties soured during the time Ghulam Nabi Azad headed the Government.
Both the Muftis and Azad were responsible for it.After completion of two and half years Mufti's party created a problem by agitating against the Amarnath land row. This very land row had annoyed Azad so much that he saw to it that the Congress high command kept the PDP at an arms length. This gave an opportunity for the National Conference leadership to try its luck. For the NC leadership securing partnership in the coalition Government was not an easy affair because the Congress Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi had not been favaourably disposed towards Farooq Abdullah. It is the result of this anger that NC ,which had won 28 seats in 2002 Assembly election, was denied the opportunity to form a coalition Government with the Congress.Sachin Pilot,son-in-law of Farooq Abdullah, and J. Scindia, close friends of Rahul Gani, played a signifacant role in hammering out an alliance between the NC and the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. The result was that not only Omar Abdullah was installed as the Chief Minister but he sought an assurance from the centre that he should be allowed to head the Government for full six-year term.
It was a lucky period for the Abdullahs because after Omar took over as Chief Minister,Farooq Abdullah was inducted in the Union sCabinet on May 28.His son-in-Law,,Sachin Pilot, was also given the berth in the Union Ministry.Pilot has married Farooq's youngest daughter,Sarrah. When Pilot married Sarrah the Abdullahs announced that Sarrah had been disowned by them. But the situation has changed after Pilot was responsible fr setting the stage for NC-Congress coalition. In the entire process of Government making in the centre Rahul Gandhi has played the role of the most matured politician.Right from the day he was elected to the Lok Sabha he showed no interest in getting inducted in the union cabinet. He had been instrumental for the Congress to perform a better show in Uttar Pradesh but he preferred to play the role of a king maker to being a king.In the Lok Sabha elections if any politcian has added additional weight to his or her political frame it is Rahul Gandhi.Priyanka Gandhi, whose face can easily burn the topless towers of Illum, never bothered to stake claim for a berth in the cabinet.Hence Gandhis have patience. And when they stage a comeback they do it like a volcano.
