| Ladakh employees meet CM, seek special allowances | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Leh, June 2: A 10-members Coordination Committee of All Ladakh Govt. Employees Association representing members from both Leh and kargil district, today called upon the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rathar at Srinagar and submitted memorandum demanding the State Govt. for granting special allowances to the State Govt. employees working in Ladakh under the purview of 6th pay commission’s recommendation.
The delegation was led by the Minister for Culture and Tourism Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora and strongly demanded to the Chief Minister to grant specific Regional Allowances to the employees working in Ladakh as per the pattern of Central Govt. Employees working in Ladakh who already enjoys the benefits of revised pay on the outline of North-East regions of India.
Giving justification of these demands, Mr. Jora apprised the Chief Minister that the employees working in Ladakh region have some specific problems in terms of backwardness, high altitude, high expensive place, severe cold, remaining cut off with rest of the country for 6 months and so many other natural constraints. He urged the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister for favorable consideration for the genuine and rightful demands of the employees.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the State Govt. would take all possible encouraging measures in this regard . He assured that the State Government would study over the norms under which the Central government gives special benefit to its employees in difficult areas like Ladakh and would recommend to give such benefits and allowances the employees working in Ladakh.
The delegation also met with the Finance Secretary.
