| The newly inaugurated ‘Eveready Industries India Limited’s’ industrial unit in Samba is all set to make a significant contribution to the economic development of Jammu Kashmir. The unit, established with an investment of Rs 200 crore, will create local jobs, boost ancillary units, suppliers, and service providers, promote skill development, and generate opportunities for women. The setting up of the “Eveready’s” plant in the Union Territory, reflects the sustained efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose leadership a new destiny has been written for Jammu Kashmir. His vision has turned the dream of a prosperous Jammu Kashmir into reality. For decades, Jammu & Kashmir’s economy remained heavily dependent on agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, and tourism. While these sectors continue to be the backbone of the region, there has always been a pressing need to diversify the economy through industrialisation. The “Eveready” plant in Samba addresses this need by opening a new chapter of manufacturing-led development. Industrial growth not only broadens the economic base but also creates long-term employment and improves local incomes. The unit will give a major boost to ancillary industries, suppliers, transporters, packaging units, and local service providers. Every large industrial investment creates a chain reaction in the economy, benefiting small and medium enterprises around it. Local entrepreneurs now have a chance to become part of a larger industrial ecosystem. This multiplier effect can significantly improve business activity in Samba and neighbouring districts. This momentum must continue. More industries should be encouraged to invest in Jammu & Kashmir through policy support, land availability, reliable power supply, and skilled manpower. Environmental safeguards and balanced development must also remain priorities. Equally important is the opportunity for skill development. Modern industries require trained manpower, technical skills, and professional discipline. The arrival of reputed companies like Eveready can encourage local youth to pursue vocational training and technical education. Industry-academia partnerships, training centres, and apprenticeship programmes can emerge, making the workforce more competitive and future-ready. The project is also expected to generate opportunities for women. Economic empowerment of women is essential for inclusive development, and industries that provide safe and dignified workplaces help women become active participants in the economy. Greater female workforce participation leads to stronger families and healthier communities. The “Eveready” unit in Samba is not just a factory—it is a beacon of change. It represents hope for youth, opportunity for entrepreneurs, and confidence in Jammu & Kashmir’s future. |
