Students take to poetry to campaign against tobacco

JAMMU, JUNE 02– As a part of “World No Tobacco Day”, a Mushaira and a Culture Programme highlighting the ill-effects and direct and indirect consequences of smoking was held in Government Higher Secondary School, Baja Bain in Sunderbani block of Rajouri district.
The programme also aimed at to create awareness among the masses and student fraternity about the importance of enforcement of Section 5 Cigarette Tobacco Act which was organized by District Information Officer, Rajouri.
Principal of the Institution Mr. Sukh Dev Vishisist presided over the function.
Over a dozen of poets from different areas of the block participated in the Mushaira who recited the poems purely on anti Tobacco related products and gave a message to the people for implementation of the Section 5 where under imprisonment and fine or both is imposed for violating Section 5 of said Act.
A culture programme was also presented by artists of Rakesh Kala Kendra based on ill-effects of consumption of tobacco. As many as 10 artists Vinod Sharma, Darshan Sharma, Rampaul, Pryanka, Roopakshi, Kamini, Tania, Neha and Sakkshi participated in the cultural items.
On the occasion, District Information Officer, Rajouri apprised the audience about the formation of committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, S. Jaipal Singh to monitor implementation of Section 5 Cigarette Tobacco Act.
Principal of the institution appreciated the department for organizing such an informative programme. He asked the faculty members and student community to cooperate with the committee for effective implementation of the act so that this evil habit could be dealt with strictly.
