| Udhampur hoteliers take lead declare no-smoking zones | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, JUNE 02: To apprise about the provision of section-4 of Indian Tobacco Act-2003, the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ajay Khajuria convened a meeting with Hoteliers, Restaurant and Banquet Hall owners, here today. Chief Planning Officer, Udhampur, H.H. Dutt, Assistant Controller, Drugs, Munish Gupta, Food Inspector (HQ) Udhampur, Pankaj Soni and President, Udhampur Hotel Association, Shanti Baru attended the meeting. In the meeting various provisions of section-4 of the Act were discussed in detail. The meeting was told that no person would smoke in any public place which also includes Hotels, Restaurants and Banquet halls. According to the provisions of the Act, a hotel having 30-rooms or a Restaurant having seating capacity of 30 persons or more and in the airports, a separate provision for smoking area is required to e made. For the purpose, hoteliers were urged to display No Smoking sign boards of the standard size of 30x60 Cm. in the premises of hotels, restaurants and banquet halls. He asked for creating separate smoking zones in hotels and restaurants where this facility was not available so far. During the meeting, Food Inspector also distributed the sign boards “Smoking is prohibited” among the hoteliers to display them at the prominent places of their respective establishments. The Hoteliers appreciated the efforts of district administration and assured to put in their concerted efforts in implanting the provision of section-4 of the Act in their establishments.
