Early Times Report

Amritsar, Apr 28: Under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University has launched a new website for the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning (ODL):https://odl.gndu.ac.in. The new website has been developed to make academic information and student services more accessible and user-friendly. It provides complete details about ODL courses (distance education programmes), admission process, eligibility, fee structure, and important notifications.
Prof. Karamjeet Singh said that the new website also includes an e-Learning Management System (e-LMS), through which students can easily access Self Learning Materials (SLMs), e-books, online study content, and recorded video lectures. This enables students to study anytime from home. The platform also keeps students updated with academic schedules, notices, and examination-related information.
Prof. (Dr.) Harvinder Singh Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, informed that around 2700 learners are currently enrolled in various ODL and Online programmes offered by the University. Dr. Subheet Kumar Jain, Director, Directorate of ODL & Online Studies, shared that the University is offering 10 ODL degree programs, including BA, BBA, B.Lib, BCA, B.Com, MBA, MCA, MA (Punjabi), MA (English) and M.Com, along with 32 skill-based and industry-oriented certificate and diploma programmes, including emerging and professional areas, such as Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Digital Marketing, Certificate in Introduction to Sikh Religion, Diploma in Punjabi, and several other specialized courses under ODL mode, all approved by UGC-DEB under category-I status. He further added that the fee structure of these courses is affordable, making higher education accessible to a larger number of students. The entire admission process, from registration to issuance of roll numbers, is fully online, allowing students to complete admission from home without visiting the campus.
Dr. Jain also informed that the Directorate conducts regular Personal Contact Programme (PCP) classes in offline mode to provide a real classroom learning experience. As per UGC guidelines adopted by the University, students are allowed to pursue two programmes simultaneously, one in regular mode and the other in ODL/Online mode. Admissions for ODL courses for the July 2026 session have already commenced from 14th April 2026, and the admission portal is live. Interested students are advised to visit the official website and complete their admission process at the earliest.
