| Minister urges politicians to work towards peace | | | SRINAGAR, SEPT 24 Advocating an internal ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, Transport Minister Hakim Mohammad Yasin today urged political leaders in the state to extend their full cooperation in taking the peace process forward in the spirit of recent Havana declaration.
Yasin, the People's Democratic Front (PDF) chairman in his address to a public meeting at his home constituency of Khansahib in Budgam district today said people of the state wanted peace and the initiative taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent foreign tour had rekindled new hopes among them.
The minister was referring to the recent meeting between Singh and Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of the NAM summit at Havana where the two leaders agreed to carry forward the dialogue process and resolve all issues including Kashmir.
Yasin whose PDF party is a coalition partner in the state's Congress-led government in the state said ceasefire is most relevant in the backdrop of the Havana meet to build confidence and the time was now ripe for the move in Jammu and Kashmir.
Keeping in view of the commencement tommorow of the holy fasting month of Ramadan the minister demanded the release of those detainees against whom there were no serious charges. |
