JUIT SIAM Student Chapter Secures Global First Position Among 200+ Chapters
4/29/2026 10:41:45 PM
Early Times Report

Solan, Apr 29: In a landmark global achievement, the SIAM Student Chapter of Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) has secured the first position worldwide in the international membership recruitment competition organized by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
The competition, conducted at the end of 2025, saw participation from over 200 student chapters across the globe, each striving to enroll the highest number of new members during the designated campaign period. Demonstrating exceptional strategic planning, outreach, and teamwork, JUIT’s SIAM chapter emerged as the top-performing chapter internationally.
This achievement was accomplished under the guidance and support of Prof. (Dr.) Vivek Sehgal, whose mentorship and encouragement played a significant role in the chapter’s continued growth and success.
However, this accomplishment extends far beyond numbers.
Strengthening Community Through Events and Academic Initiatives
The chapter’s success in membership growth reflects the vibrant academic ecosystem it has cultivated on campus. Over the past year, the JUIT SIAM Student Chapter has actively organized and hosted:
● Technical workshops on applied mathematics and computational tools
● Expert lectures and invited talks by researchers and industry professionals
● Coding and problem-solving sessions focused on real-world applications
● Awareness sessions introducing students to research opportunities in mathematical sciences
● Collaborative events encouraging interdisciplinary innovation
These initiatives have consistently fostered intellectual curiosity, research orientation, and practical skill development among students. The membership expansion is therefore a direct outcome of sustained engagement, academic value creation, and strong peer-driven motivation.
By combining impactful events with strategic outreach, the chapter has strengthened not only its local presence but also contributed meaningfully to SIAM’s global mission of promoting applied mathematics and computational science.
Recognition and Awards
In recognition of this outstanding global achievement, the chapter has been awarded:
● A curated box of official SIAM merchandise for members
● A redeemable coupon for SIAM book publications
● An invitation to publish a feature article in SIAM News
Honoring the Legacy of Leadership
This milestone stands on the foundation laid by visionary leadership over the years. The chapter extends heartfelt gratitude to all former Presidents and leadership teams whose dedication, structured governance, and long-term vision shaped the culture of excellence within the JUIT SIAM community.
The chapter especially acknowledges the invaluable contributions of its past Presidents — Anant Sharma, Shambhavi Singh, Ayush Vaish, and Achyut Tiwari — whose leadership and commitment played a pivotal role in building the strong foundation that enabled this global success.
Their efforts in building credibility, encouraging research engagement, and institutionalizing high-impact events created the framework that enabled this global recognition today.
The chapter also expresses sincere appreciation to Prof. (Dr.) Vivek Sehgal for his continuous guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support in fostering academic excellence and organizational growth.
This achievement represents continuity — a legacy of commitment passed from one leadership team to another — and reflects the collective strength of the entire JUIT academic community.
With this global distinction, the JUIT SIAM Student Chapter sets a new benchmark for excellence, engagement, and academic leadership.
