Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 5: The Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) District Jammu Urban on Tuesday held its monthly meeting under the leadership of District President Yogesh Sawhney, with the proceedings presided over by Working President and former Minister Raman Bhalla.
The meeting witnessed participation from senior leaders including former Minister G M Saroori, Satish Sharma, Pawan Dev Singh, Surinder Kumar, Rajesh Sharma, Sohit Sharma, Sandeep Dogra, R P Magotra, Rakesh Sharma, Latish Sharma, H S Bagii, Ram Magotra, Gurmeet Singh, Prem Sharma, Vinod Pandita, Vinod Sawhney, Michael Wazir, Ashok Sharma, Rishu Kumar, Vijay Malhotra, Sonu Dogra, Parveen Singh, Surinder Sharma, Nasir Masih, Parveen Basotra and Rajinder Singh. The meeting focused on pressing public concerns and organizational preparedness ahead of forthcoming local body elections.
Addressing the gathering, Raman Bhalla launched a scathing attack on the administration for its failure to address basic civic issues affecting the common people. He highlighted the growing public distress due to irregular water supply, unscheduled power cuts, and deteriorating infrastructure across urban and peripheral areas of Jammu. He stated that residents are facing immense hardships due to damaged roads, poor drainage systems, and lack of proper sanitation, which reflect administrative apathy and lack of accountability.
Raman Bhalla further expressed serious concern over rising unemployment among youth, stating that the absence of concrete job opportunities and delayed recruitment processes have pushed many into frustration and uncertainty. He pointed out that inflation and the rising cost of living have added to the burden of common households, making survival increasingly difficult for economically weaker sections. He emphasized that every section of society, including daily wage earners, traders, employees, and students, is grappling with multiple challenges due to policy failures and lack of effective governance.
Continuing his address, Raman Bhalla said that the Congress party remains committed to raising the voice of the people and holding the government accountable. He stressed the need for immediate corrective measures to ensure regular supply of essential services such as drinking water and electricity, improvement in civic amenities, and implementation of employment-generating initiatives. He urged the J&K Government to act promptly and responsibly to mitigate the sufferings of the people and restore public confidence.
Highlighting seasonal concerns, Raman Bhalla also urged the government to gear up its preparations well in advance of the upcoming monsoon season to avoid any untoward incidents. He emphasized the urgent need to strengthen and clean the drainage system, prevent water logging in vulnerable areas, and ensure proper disaster preparedness to safeguard lives and property. He warned that negligence in this regard could lead to serious hardships for residents, especially in low-lying and densely populated localities.
