| Pakistan misguiding world opinion | | |
Initially Islamabad would say that peace in the region depended on the settlement of the Kashmir issue.Now it has started telling the world that unsettled Kashmir issue has bred terrorism.Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,according to Islamabad,is the result of continued dispute over Kashmir.If one believs that what Pakistani leaders say is correct one would then ask why terrorism did not plague the region when the Kashmir issue had not been settled between 1947 and 1989.During this period separatists or the pro-Pakistan forces in Kashmir used to voice their demand for resolving the Kashmir issue.Acorss the LOC in Islamabad the Pakistani leaders would demand the settlement of the issue Terrorism in the region is the result of late Gen.Ziaul Haq's operation Topac which he launched in 1988.In fact Pakistan had attempted at wresting control of Kashmir when it assisted infiltration of its soliders in civies and tribals into Jammu and Kashmir in 1965.The activities of these infiltrators ultimately resulted in an armed conflict between India and Pakistan.The conflict inflicted heavy casualities on the Pakistani troops.The Indian troops had captured various Pakistani land belts however the casefire was engineered by the then Soviet intervention in the shape of the Tashkent agreement.China which has been a strategic ally of Pakistan had told the Pakistani leaders that for effective insurrection in kashmir the local youths have to be trained and motivated.And this is what Gen. Zia had done.There has been a prolonged Indo-China dispute over the border territory and on the occupation of the Tibet but it has not resulted in any major terrorist strike engineered by the Chinese.Even the Kashmiri separatists are heard telling the world that unless the Kashmir issue was resolved peace will elude the Indian subcontinent.Does this mean that Pakistan has plans of kicking up any form of violence for forcing Dehli to resolve the Kashmir dispute?But Delhi has decided not to succumb to this blackmail.It has rubbished the Pakistani Government's claim that terrorism is the result of unsettled Kashmir issue and has conveyed to Pakistan that the channels of dialogue with Islamabad would be opened only after Pakistan initiates measures for preventing terrorist from using its soil for extending terrorist activities to its neighbouring countries..Let Pakistan live in peace and allow its neighbours to live in tranquility
