| DCC (U) welcome Meira Kumar as LS speaker | | | Early Times report
Jammu, June 3: The activists of district congress committee urban have hailed in electing Meira Kumar as new speaker of 15th Lok-Sabha at a meeting chaired by ex. MLA, Om Chopra here today. Workers and block presidents expressed gratitude to the high command for nomination of women and a senior leader from weaker section of the society as speaker of Lok-Sabha.
On the occasion office bearers unanimously appealed to the government to release D.A. to pensioners for 1st July 2008 as is the convention and arrears of 6th pay commission to employees and pensioners in cash as has been done by central government in two installments.
All the officer bearers of DCC, block and wards appreciated the decision of Rahul Gandhi to work for strengthening organization instead of acceptance of ministerial berth which should serve as a beacon light for other aspirants. It has also been stressed that 33% reservation for women in parliament, assembly and other democratic institution as will be taken up for positive result.
Among others present were S.Kirtan Singh, Mansa Ram, Gurdarshan Singh, B.B Gupta, Vijay Sethi, Jagan Nath, Hussain Bakash, Ram Malhotra, Vijay Inder, Suresh Bhagotra, Padmani Langeh, Madan Mala Malagar, Mian Nazir Ahmed, and Camres David.
