Early Times Report
POONCH, May 18: As part of the ongoing "Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan", District Police Poonch, in coordination with Jagriti Youth Club Mangnar, today organised a comprehensive awareness and youth engagement programme at Government Model Higher Secondary School Jhullas aimed at promoting a drug-free society and encouraging sports among youth. During the programme, sports kits including volleyball and football kits were distributed among the students to motivate them towards constructive activities, physical fitness, discipline, and teamwork. The initiative was undertaken with the objective of channelising the energy of youth towards sports and other positive pursuits, thereby keeping them away from the menace of drug abuse and other social evils.
The programme was attended by Dr. Ajay Sharma JKPS, Additional Superintendent of Police Poonch, who interacted with the students and delivered a detailed awareness lecture on the harmful effects of drug abuse. While addressing the gathering, he highlighted the growing challenges posed by narcotics and stressed the collective responsibility of society, educational institutions, parents, and youth in combating the menace. He urged the students to remain focused on their studies, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and actively participate in sports and extracurricular activities.
Dr. Ajay Sharma also conducted an interactive career counselling session wherein students were guided regarding various career opportunities, competitive examinations, and avenues available in public service, sports, and other professional fields. He encouraged the students to adopt discipline, dedication, and hard work as the foundation of success in life.
Chairman of Jagriti Youth Club, Advocate Ajit Verma, and Principal Government Model Higher Secondary School Jhullas, Sardar Harpal Singh, appreciated the initiative undertaken by District Police Poonch for promoting sports, youth empowerment, and anti-drug awareness among students. The programme was attended by school staff, students, and prominent citizens from the area.
District Police Poonch remains committed towards the mission of building a drug-free society through continuous awareness drives, community participation, youth engagement programmes, and preventive initiatives under the banner of Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
