| Command Hospital organizes 3-day workshop on HIV/AIDS | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, 05-To combat HIV/AIDS pandemic, the Indian Armed Forces have initiated a very vibrant AIDS Control Program, which has been successful in harnessing the spread and prevalence of this disease among the uniformed personnel. With the objective of enhancing knowledge and awareness amongst the Armed Forces, Command Hospital, Northern Command organized a three day workshop on “HIV/AIDS Treatment & Care”. The workshop, a joint collaboration of the Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services and the Center of Excellence in Disaster Management under the aegis of United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), commenced today. The workshop is being attended by delegates comprising doctors and nursing officers from the three services of the Armed Forces. Maj Gen Dipankar Ganguly, Commandant of the Command Hospital & Patron of the workshop, welcomed all the dignitaries and the delegates. He deliberated on the Armed Forces perspective including the prevalence and measures being taken towards prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. The primary objective of this workshop is to provide an interactive platform for all the delegates, on the myriad of issues on HIV/AIDS with respect to the treatment, care, stigma, legal and ethical aspects, with the experts on the field. Lt Gen PC Bhardwaj, GOC-in-C Northern Command who was the Chief Guest on the occasion spoke about the impact of the affliction at the personal and social level and the need to change our behavorial attitude towards the people affected. Later, he also released a souvenir to mark the occasion and inaugurated a scientific exhibition “Know AIDS for No AIDS’ which was a lucid and comprehensive illustration on the facts and myths about this disease. Lt Gen Naresh Kumar, Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Services (Med), Chief Patron, released a Compact Disc containing training and resource material for the delegates. Maj Gen Mandeep Singh Additional DGAFMS (MR) in his key note address dwelt on the topic “HIV/AIDS scenario in the Armed Forces”.
