PDP won’t rest till justice is done
Mehbooba demands registration of FIR
6/5/2009 11:56:22 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar Jun- Urging the state government to take first essential step of registering FIR on rape-cum-murder case of Shopian girls, the Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said that her party won’t take rest till justice is done.
‘Unless that was done the entire response by the government will continue to look dubious’, she told the media here today.
Responding to the statement of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that he would press entire administration into action to find out truth, Mehbooba said it was another attempt to divert attention from the real issue. “Not the entire administration” but the Shopian police alone had to be activated to perform what is their fundamental duty”, she said. “Unless police registers the case and takes up investigation seriously no amount of assurances would work”, she added.
Leaving alone the ordinary requirements of efficient and fair policing the refusal of the administration to register FIR was a blatant violation of Supreme Court instructions she said. The Court directions, she added were clear that FIR on allegations of rape had to be registered on a mere complaint.
‘The government was duty bound to present to the public and the bereaved families the reports of two autopsies of victims of gang rape and murder, she said regretting that as head of the administration, the Chief Minister, who should be privy to these reports and other inputs, even after one week of the crime admits only that “something has happened” (kuchh huwa hai).
Reiterating the party’s unflinching solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Shopian who had started an indefinite strike to press for a fair and professional investigation, PDP President said entire population of the valley shared their grief and pain. She said the Party would not rest till justice was done in the case.
