| LeT planning major strikes in India | | | NEW DELHI: To avenge their ideologue Hafiz Mohammed Saeed’s detention on India’s insistence, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), along with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), is planning major strikes across India, including in Jammu and Kashmir.
Credible inputs coming through human intelligence from across the Line of Control (LoC) and through intercepts have indicated that two groups of highly trained terrorists drawn from LeT and JeM, each consisting of 25 men, have been given orders to infiltrate at the earliest opportune moment, sources said.
Armed with sophisticated weapons and carrying plastic explosives these groups, trained on the lines of the Mumbai terror attack perpetrators, have been given specific instructions to carry out their task first in J&K _ by killing informers to the Indian Army and J&K Police and abducting or killing Army porters around the LoC _ and then disperse and sneak into the big metros of the hinterland to play havoc.
The LeT apparently wants to wash off the “disgrace” inflicted on its de facto chief Saeed by storming India and going on a Mumbai-like killing spree.
Though the plan was hatched well before Saeed secured his release orders from the Pakistan High Court, it is not likely to undergo any change even after the lifting of Saeed’s house arrest as that would convey the wrong message to the terrorist cadre, sources said, adding that only Saeed himself could force LeT to drop the plan.
Ironically both Zarar Shah and Zakiur- Rehman Lakhvi, the top men of LeT operations, have been a part of the planning exercise despite being locked in a Pakistani prison.
Through this audacious act, sources said, the terror outfits want to bring Pakistan and India close to war, to deflect the Pakistani Army’s offensive against the Taliban and al Qaeda.
Though both LeT and JeM claim that liberation of Kashmir is their only aim, of late they have forged alliances with the Taliban and al Qaeda and are actively helping them with men and material.
“With the USA pushing Pakistan hard to go all out against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Swat and FATA, the only chance the terror outfits see to get out of the quagmire is to bring the two countries to war somehow. To achieve this target they will try launching an attack similar to the Mumbai one or killing a very high profile Hindu leader like Modi or Advani to attract the Hindu backlash.
A second blow in less than a year would certainly impel India to seek military action,” said sources.
