JAMMU, June 6: In a unique and creative initiative to strengthen the ongoing anti-drug awareness movement, renowned cartoonist Shekhar Sharma, popularly known as Bunty Cartoonist, organized an innovative "Exhibition on Wheels" in collaboration with Jammu Police as part of the sustained campaign against drug abuse.
The initiative was conducted under the leadership of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh and with the active support of SP City North Vivek Shekhar, SDPO City North Vikram Bhau, and SHO City Police Station Shri Shakti Sharma, who have been consistently working towards spreading awareness and mobilizing public participation in the fight against drugs.
The exhibition was organized in front of the world-famous Raghunath Mandir, Jammu, where Shekhar Sharma displayed a series of impactful and thought-provoking cartoons created by him to highlight the harmful consequences of drug abuse. Through his creative artwork, he conveyed powerful messages aimed at sensitizing society, particularly the youth, about the dangers of narcotics and inspiring them to lead healthy, productive, and drug-free lives.
The awareness campaign forms part of the larger anti-drug movement launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, which seeks to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from Jammu and Kashmir through coordinated efforts involving law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and the public at large.
On the occasion, MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi also attended the programme and appreciated the innovative approach adopted to spread awareness among the masses. Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, who pioneered the anti-drug movement in the region over a decade ago, was also present and emphasized the need for collective community action to defeat the menace of drug abuse.
The initiative received an overwhelming response from the public and garnered strong support from various trade and market associations. Among those who extended their support were the Raghunath Bazaar Association headed by Sanjay Gupta, Hari Upper Market Association led by Shri Ashish, Residency Road Association headed by Harminder Singh, Residency Road-Kanak Mandi Association, Ashish Mahajan of Gumat Bazaar, and Shri Diwan Ji. All lauded the efforts of Jammu Police and the organizers in taking the anti-drug message directly to the people through a creative and engaging medium.
Speaking on the occasion, the organizers stressed that awareness-driven initiatives play a crucial role in educating the public, particularly young people, about the dangers of substance abuse. They reiterated their commitment to continuing such campaigns and strengthening the collective resolve of society to build a healthier, safer, and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme concluded with a strong message of unity and publi chc participation in the ongoing mission to eradicate drug abuse and create a brighter future for the coming generations.
