Early Times Report
Jammu June 6
Jammu State Morcha (Progressove) criticizes the State Government for adopting dilly dally tactics in the matter of opening of Central University in the Jammu province and alleged it for sabotaging the proposal of the Government of India of opening Central University in Jammu province.
In a press conference JSM(P) leaders namely H.B.Khajuria, Digvijay Singh, Devinder Singh Jamwal and Chander Uday Sharma disparaged the decision of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Wahid, to open the temporary working office of the sanctioned Central University at Srinagar and to start the Post Graduate Classes in identified disciplines there from this year.
This proposal unambiguously exposes the conspiracy of the State Government and the Vice Chancellor to establish the Central University in Kashmir Valley and not in Jammu province as has been earlier decided, the speakers said.
It may be reminded that Government of India has identified Jammu Province for the Central University whereas Indian Institute of Management is to be opened in Kashmir Valley. About 6000 Kanal of land in Samba district has been identified for the Central University and it is waiting clearance from the State Government.
JSM (P) demands that necessary orders allocating 6000 Kanals of land in Samba for the construction of university campus be immediately issued and doubts in the minds of Jammuites about shifting of proposed university to Kashmir Valley be cleared and working office of the Central University in Srinagar and starting of some courses there be immediately stopped, they demanded adding that a temporary office of the proposed Central University be immediately opened in Jammu City or in Samba.
We ask for the cancellation of the appointment of the present Vice Chancellor of the Central University who belongs to Kashmir and by his actions appears to be in league with those who are conspiring to shift the proposed University to Kashmir Valley.
JSM (P) asks the Jammu leaders of Congress, in particular and other political parties and students organizations to put united efforts so that the conspiracy to shift the Jammu and Kashmir Central University be stalled and the University be established in Jammu Province as proposed earlier.
Further it expresses its great concern on the discriminatory treatment being meted to the candidates from Jammu province in the matter of their selections in the professional institutions and reminds the present collusion government of its promise to provide fair justice to all the communities and the regions of the state. It further demanded implementation of the Recommendations of Singhal Committee, 1998.
