| Snow clearance operation in full swing on Amarnath route | | | Early Times Report Jammu June 6 Srinagar, June 6 Both the Pahalgam Development Authority and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board have pressed into force additional labour force for carrying out complete snow clearance operations on Chandanwari-Cave and Baltal-cave mountain routes. A senior functionary of the Shrine Board on anonymity said that one-week delay in the start of the annual Amarnath Yatra was the result of the fact that both the routes were snowbound and additioal labour force had been pressed into ser vice for clearing the routes of snow. He said that as a result of heavy snow having buried the two routes to the cave the yatra period this season will have to be of the duration of 53 days. He said that the yatra will start from June 15 and end on August 5. He said that while 80 per cent of the route between Baltal and the holy cave had been cleared of snow it would take another one week for the labourers to make the Pahalgam-cave route passable. Soon after the routes were cleared of snow security forcs would be deployed on the entire route.Special checkposts were being set up at Pahalgam and Baltal, the two base camps for the pilgrimage to the holy cave situated in South Kashmir at a height of 13500 feet. It is to mention that over 25,000 yatris have been registered so far and the Board expects over three lakh pilgrims to visit the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati provided separatists aided by militants did not disrupt the pilgrims progrss to the holy cave.
