Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 14: The Department of Library and Information Science and Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, organised a certificate distribution ceremony at Aurobindo Gyan Kendra to felicitate the students of the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) programme on the successful completion of their one-month internship training at the Library.
Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean Planning and Development and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, she shared her insights on the evolving landscape of Library and Information Science and encouraged students to equip themselves with emerging technological skills and professional expertise to meet the growing demands of the information society. She also appreciated the efforts of Dhanvantri Library in providing meaningful practical training opportunities to the students.
The internship programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Incharge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, who highlighted the importance of practical training in enhancing the professional competencies of future library professionals. He stated that such internship programmes provide valuable exposure to modern library practices, information management systems, digital resources and user-centric services, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical learning and professional application.
The interns shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the exposure and learning opportunities gained during the internship. They acknowledged the supportive environment and hands-on training that enriched their understanding of various library operations and services.
The internship programme was supervised by Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Librarian, who played a pivotal role in mentoring and guiding the students throughout the training period. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Bandana Lehri.
Among those present on the occasion were Mrs. Deepti Padmanabhan, Assistant Administrative Officer; Mr. Ashwin Kushwaha, Assistant Professor; Assistant Librarians Dr. Bindu Sharma, Mr. Jasjeet Singh, Mrs. Azmit Begum and Dr. Reenu Aarti, besides library staff and students. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the interns, followed by a vote of thanks, marking the successful culmination of a productive and enriching internship programme at Dhanvantri Library.
