| Niaz demands ex-gratia for victim’s families | | Govt. non serious in avoiding tragedies on roads: PDP | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jun 07- The tragic bus accident near Doda, claiming 25 lives, has been widely mourned by several political leaders. Expressing their gave concern over repeated road accidents in Doda and Kishtwar districts, PDP state secretary Asgar Ali and party leader Thakur Balbir Singh lambasted the State Government for playing with the lives of the citizens. Shifting all blames on the State Government for the killings on roads, they demanded action against officers of the concerned departments for their failure to keep a check on over-loading and plying of outdated passenger vehicles in the mountainous district. In a joint statement issued here today, PDP leaders said that the ill-fated mini-bus being outdated was plying on the road due to nexus between transporters and officers of the concerned departments. Whiling expressing shock over loss of human lives in the accident, PDP leaders demanded enquiry to find out the causes of mishaps and ex-gratia relief to the tune of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased persons. Asgar reminded that after February 25 accident, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had promised to improve the condition of roads and to provide adequate passenger vehicles in this mountainous belt but that promises remained only on paper. “The same promises were repeated after Bhaderkot tragedy in Kishtwar on May 4”, he regretted and added that during the last five months this regime has done nothing except making promises. Balbir Singh while expressing serious concern over the frequency of road mishaps in Kishtwar and Doda districts claiming precious human lives has asked the authorities, especially traffic department, to take adequate and stringent measures to check the recurrence of road accidents. Taking a dig at state government for adopting casual approach in protecting lives of passengers, PDP leaders said that it has become custom for ruling coalition to make promises after every human tragedy. Former Minister and senior Congress leader Mohammad Sharief Niaz has expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic accident in which at least 25 passenger lost their lives. In a message he conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families and demanded free treatment to the injured and ex-gratia relief to the next kin of the deceased. Niaz also demanded imposing of ban on use of tape recorders in mini buses, deployment of more SRTC buses in the hilly district and strictly imposing ban on use of mobile by the drivers of passenger vehicles.
