| JK procures 68388 metric tonnes of fertilizers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar: To ensure higher productivity in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, government has procured over sixty thousand metric tonnes of fertilizers. In the Jammu and Kashmir State, fertilizer shortages have been traditionally felt during the months of March, April, and May. However, this year the Principal Secretary Agricultural Production Department, Ms Sonali Kumar, personally supervised the availability of fertilizers during these critical months. In the review meeting, which she chaired Sunday, it was reported that over 7500 truck loads carrying 68388 Metric tons of fertilizers were mobilised in the state carrying Urea, DAP, and MOP during the month of March, April and May. The farming community has received these fertilizers with full subsidy on transportation up to the block level destinations.
In valley during the month of March, 26319 metric tons of urea, 7967 metric tons of DAP and 7358 metric tons of MOP were made available mostly to the fruit growers of the valley. During the month of April and May 7885 metric tons of DAP and 497 metric tons of MOP were distributed. It was reported in the meeting that adequate supply of urea is available in the state. However with regard to the supply of DAP, another 5000 metric tons of DAP is arriving in the state in the next 3-4 days period, out of this 2500 Metric tons each shall be distributed in Kashmir and Jammu Division respectively.
The various manufacturers which supply fertilizers to the state include NFL, IFFCO, IPL, Chambal and TATA. These fertilizers are distributed by J&K Agro, JAKFED, various Cooperative Societies and private dealers, through a net work of sales outlets.
