9 of family among 26 killed in 2 Doda mishaps

Kishtwar June 7:- Twenty six persons, including nine members from one family, were feared dead and seven others received multiple injuries in two consecutive occurred on Doda-Kishtwar National Highway 1B today.
The first accident occurred at 12.15 PM, when a mini bus bearing registration no JK06-0749 met with an accident near Prem Nager 20 kilometers from district headquarter Doda in which about 25 passengers were feared dead and five others including the mini bus conductor received minor injuries, while the other accident happened near Nai Basti Sawgawhari only 5 kilometer from the site of first accident.
The detail of drwoned persons as per the report of injured persons it is said that almost 25 persons has boarded the bus and all seats are full and no passangwer was standing. However they confirmed the presence of their friends and relatives who drowned away and identified them as Kirna Devi w/o Kashmir Singhj r/o Charya, Kandoth and her thre children and her family member Satya Devi w/o Bishamber Lal r/o Haneja and her three daughters and lone son drowned and other include Noor-ul Hassan s/o Asdhulla r/o Gandoh, Ab Wahid s/o Mohd Sharief r/o Chinyas and Yahaya Batt s/o Sullaha Batt r/o Batyas.
According to the eyewitness Ram Rattan, the Mini Bus was on its way from Doda to Thatri, while reaching near Prem Nager the driver of the mini bus lost his control over the steering of the mini bus and fall into river Chenab. Dr Vikram Singh said that when they recieved the news they rushed towards the spot and see that the bodies were floating in the strong water currents of river Chenab.He further said that hue and cry of the passengers could have easily been heard. He said that the mini bus was flashed away with strong water currents of river Chenab, before any body could be saved.
As soon as the news of accident reaches Doda and Kishtwar, Deputy CM Tara Chand, MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani, MLA Inderwal G M Sarrori Div Com Dr Pawan Kotwal and Deputy Commissioner Doda Sharief-ud-Din along with police officials and NGO's team reached the spot. In the mean time peoples from adjoining place start running halter and shelter and shifts the injured persons to accidental hospital Thatri, where according to the Chief Medical officer Doda, Dr. Iftakar Shapoo, the condition of all the injured persons is stable. He said that all the possible arrangements for conducting an autopsy of the deceased have been managed, in case the dead bodies of the passengers could be retrieved from the river Chinab.
However, the suspense over the exact number of passenger on board is continued as the figure varies from one person to another. According the injured Mohammad Farooq, the mini bus was full of passenger having the capacity of 24+1, beside the strength of the vehicle, two persons were sitting adjacent to the driver seat and the calendar of the mini taking the strength to 28 as per the injured person, but the other injured said that few childrens were also in the arms of their mother and thus taking the total to 32 as the minibus has actual capacity of 27 against the sanctioned strength. The injured person were identified as Vipan Kumar S/o Lakshmi Chand R/o Bhundakra, Mushkan D/o Shabir Ahmed R/o Dandi Bhaderwah, Naseema Begum W/o Yahya Butt R/o Batyas Ghundow, Mohammad Farooq S/o Ghulam Haider R/o Bilawar and Puran Chand S/o Babhu Ram R/o Pranute( Conductor).
According to the official sources, no dead body has been so far retrieved from the water of river Chenab and the possibility of the same could be lesser at this juncture of time as the water currents were so strong that all the bodies might have been washed and the red alert has already been sounded by the officials of district administration, beside the district administration has also informed the authorities of Bhaglier Power Project to keep an eye on reservoir at Chanderkot.

Meanwhile in another accident on Kishtwar-Doda National Highway, the Matador bearing registration no JK02E-7372 having three persons on board fall into the river Chenab near Nai Basti, while the driver of the Matador was negotiating the sharp curve. the driver of the Matador Javed Iqbal S/o Mohammad Sharief R/o Agraka wash away along with strong water currents of river Chenab, whereas Mohinder Singh S/o Sawran Singh R/o Agraka and Waseen Akram S/o Mohammad Iqbal R/o Madrana have received injuries.
