| Complete shut down in Banihal | | PDP holds massive demonstration against atrocities in Kashmir | | Early Times Report Banihal, June 8: In response to the strike call given by the Peoples Democratic Party against brazen violation of human rights and killings of innocent people in Kashmir, Banihal town observed total shut down. The bandh call was also supported by the Beopar Mandal. PDP activists also organized massive demonstration to lodge protest against failure of the Congress-National Conference coalition regime to protect dignity and lives of innocent citizens. The protest demonstration which passed through different areas turned into a rally which was addressed by senior leaders of the party. Shouting slogans against the coalition regime for its failure to contain atrocities of security forces, PDP activists led by senior leaders demanded immediate scrapping of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and handing over the internal security to state police. They said that scrapping of AFSPA could ensure dignified life for the citizens of state. Addressing the gathering, PDP district president Abdul Ahad Wani expressed his grave concern over killing of innocent people in the State in general and Kashmir Valley in particular. He regretted that new dispensation in the State has miserable failed to safeguard life and dignity of common citizens. He further said that killing of innocent people at the hands of security forces has been going on unabated and the coalition regime has been helplessly watching such inhuman acts. He strongly condemned the unabated and brazen violation of human rights by the security forces and pointed out that killings of innocent people started after Omar Abdullah took over as Chief Minister of the State and the same has been going uncontrolled despite repeated assurances by the Chief Minister. He recounted number of incidents during the last five months in which innocent people were killed at the hands of the uncontrolled security forces. Others who addressed the protest rally included Mohammad Farooq Mir, former MLA, Imtiyaz Khandey, Shoukat Javed Daing and Khurshid Ahmed.
