| Major, soldier killed in Kupwara | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 08: An army officer, a soldier and three separatist guerrillas were killed in a gunbattle in North Kashmir's frontier Kupwara district, officials said Monday. The deceased have been identified as major Rushikash Vauadhai and namely Jagtar Singh the army Jawan. Meanwhile spokesman of the Army's 15 Corps, Lt Col JS Brar said here Monday that security forces on specific information surrounded the Gulabbowl area near Hatmullah Saturday. "During the search, the terrorists who were hiding, opened fire at the troops killing an Army Major and a soldier," Brar said. The troops retaliated and engaged the guerrillas in a gunbattle, the official said. "Three terrorists were killed... the troops are now busy searching the area," Brar added. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the gunbattle site. Meanwhile police also claimed that in wee hours on Sunday an encounter took place at Khanj Pathri Datewass Behak between 13 RR and militants. Police party has been deputed and more details are awaited.
