Shaikh, Barmare pronunced guilty in `93 blasts case
9/25/2006 9:12:15 PM

Mumbai, Sept 25 A designated TADA court here today convicted two aides of absconding prime accused Tiger Memon for committing terrorist acts and taking part in the conspiracy to cause serial explosions in 1993.

Mohammed Iqbal Shaikh and Nasim Barmare were held guilty under IPC and TADA (P) Act for various offences including the two incidents on March 12, 1993 in which hand grenades were hurled at Sahar airport complex and an RDX scooter was parked at Naigaon in Dadar, Central Mumbai.

In both the cases there was no explosion and hence no loss of life and property. The two face punishment ranging from five years to life terms.

Shaikh was found guilty of obtaining arms training in Bhorghat and Sandheri areas of nearby Raigad district, attending conspiracy meetings at the residences of co-accused and filling RDX in vehicles which were planted at various places on the day of the serial blasts.

Shaikh was also found guilty of driving a scooter to Sahar airport carrying Barmare who lobbed hand grenades at bay number 54 where workers were engaged in service and aeroplanes were parked. As there was no explosion no one was injured and even property was not damaged.

While Shaikh was acquitted of the charge of hurling hand grenades in the airport area as he was driving the scooter, Barmare was found guilty on this count as he had thrown the grenades while riding pillion.

Shaikh was also held guilty of parking an RDX laden scooter in front of a clinic in Naigaon which did not explode.

The court accepted confessions of both accused and also considered the accounts of eye witnesses.
