| Government plans to establish swine flu testing center ahead of Yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jun 09- As the H1N1 virus better known as swine flu is spreading fast in India, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to establish swine flu testing centers at Qazigund and Lakhanpur ahead of the annual Amarnath yatra. “We have plans to establish a swine flu testing center at Qazigund so that the pilgrims coming for the annual Amarnath yatra are tested for the H1N1 virus,” Director Health, Dr. Muzzaffar said.. He said that the state government has plans to start two centers one at Lakhnpur, to be run by directorate of health, Jammu and another at Qazigund to be operated by the directorate of health, Srinagar. “The health department has already established a H1N1 testing center at the Srinagar airport and many passengers who have arrived here through the air route have been tested,” Dr. Muzzaffar added. The central government has already issued warning cautioning states to take precautionary measures against the spread of the virus. The airport screening has been questioned by many as the process is believed to be cumbersome. The process presently in vogue at the airports involves filling out a form declaring flu like symptoms. This process is being carried out across 21 international airports, including Srinagar. Sources say that as some symptoms of swine flu do not show up immediately, this screening is not foolproof.
