| PCB campaigns against polythene in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri June 10: J&K State Pollution Control Board Rajouri continuing its campaign for banning polythene and non-biodegradable waste under J&K Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act 2007 and Rules 2009 in collaboration with Municipal Committee Rajouri held meeting with polythene stockists, wholesaler, municipal committee members, prominent citizens, NGOs, Media etc. SPCB Office Rajouri started this campaign under guidance and supervision of B.M Sharma, IFS Regional Director, Jammu which actively cooperated by President Municipal Committee Rajouri Rajinder Gupta along with its staff. On SPCB side meeting was attended by Incharge Districts Rajouri-Poonch Baddar Hussain along with Mohan Snehi, Field Inspector and R.N Raina, Draftsman. Addressing meeting Incharge SPCB Baddar Hussian appraised President Municipality and traders about SRO-182 of 2008 and SRO-122 of 2009 which contains J&K Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act and Rules. Speaking in the meeting Field Inspector Mohan Snehi said that under Rule 4 Municipal Authority has over all responsibility of implementation of this Act and Rule for any infrastructural development for collection, storage, transportation, recycling and disposal beside seizure under Section 6(5) of Act. He further said that under Rule 5 sub-rules (1) Deputy Commission/District Magistrate, Rajouri have to ensure the enforcement of said rules for banning the use of polythene and non-biodegradable materials & SPCB under Rule 5(2) also have responsibility of enforcement beside acting as facilitator and guide in the matter of dealing with non-biodegradable material which include polythene and other waste.
