| J&K Bank to take up financial arrangements with bankers of PoK | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jun 10 : Jammu and Kashmir Bank would take up the matter with the bankers of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) regarding the financial arrangements for carrying out Cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade between the traders.
The traders of Kashmir valley and Jammu region have been demanding resumption of communication lines between the traders of POK and here and facilities for making payments and measures to facilitate visits of traders.
Till date the traders of two sides are not able to contact each other because of non-availablity of telephone network and banking facilities.
Official sources said here today the decision that J&K bank will take up the matter with POK banks was taken at a high-level meeting called to discuss the mechanism to boost cross-LoC trade.
They said Chief Secretary S S Kapur has said the government has put in place a sound mechanism to boost cross-LoC trade and make it a success.
He stressed on fast-track disposal of travel documents so that more people cross over to the other side to meet their relatives.
Mr Kapur asked the officers concerned for ensuring speedy disposal of pending cases for clearance so that people do not suffer due to procedural delays and can travel across LoC easily.
He said all necessary infrastructures for hassle-free trade would be provided so that business flourishes across the LoC and added the government was encouraging trade in locally-manufactured products to benefit State manufacturers.
Mr Kapur also asked for framing project report for construction of permanent infrastructure at Salamabad and Chakan-da Bagh for its submission to the Central government for funding.
He also said an additional amount of Rs 1.50 lakh would be provided for land acquisition at Salamabad and necessary funds for improvement in already-created infrastructure at LoC Trade Centres will also be provided.
Sources said the Chief Secretary was briefed about scanners to be installed at Collection Centres at Salamabad and Chakan-da-bagh, verification of drivers, providing of closed-body trucks and nominating designated official for Kaman Post.
