JMC accelerates AI-driven road repair and smart civic monitoring system across Jammu City
6/30/2026 10:25:30 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 30: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is actively executing its AI-enabled road monitoring and repair programme as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve civic service delivery in the city. Under the initiative, JMC is carrying out road repairs of approximately 150 to 200 metres every night after traffic movement subsides, using a state-of-the-art cold emulsion patching machine. The technology enables quick, durable and all-weather restoration of potholes and damaged road stretches while causing minimal inconvenience to commuters.
Municipal vehicles equipped with AI-enabled cameras continuously survey roads across the city and automatically detect potholes and other surface defects. The system geo-tags the affected locations and generates digital reports, enabling engineering teams to undertake timely and targeted repairs.
The AI platform has also been configured to identify a wide range of civic deficiencies, including overflowing garbage bins, waterlogging, open drains, damaged footpaths, faded road markings, illegal parking, encroachments, stray cattle, unauthorised dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and other municipal issues. The initiative marks a significant step towards predictive maintenance and data-driven urban governance.
Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, has directed all concerned officers to ensure that the defects identified through the AI platform are attended to promptly and that a robust monitoring mechanism is maintained for timely redressal of civic issues. He has further instructed the Engineering, Sanitation and Enforcement Wings to work in close coordination and utilise the AI-generated reports for efficient planning and execution of field operations.
The Commissioner has also directed field officers to intensify night-time road repair works, maintain a regular review of the defects detected by the system and ensure that civic deficiencies are rectified within stipulated timelines to provide better public services to the citizens. As part of the ongoing drive, repair operations were carried out last night in various wards of Jammu city, including stretches near Gandhi Nagar and outside the MLA Hostel.
