Early Times Report JAMMU, July 2: The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K actively participated in the National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio Campaign) held on 28th June, 2026 reaffirming its continued commitment towards child health and national public health initiatives. The campaign aims to protect children below the age of five years from the debilitating effects of polio and to sustain India's hard-earned polio-free status. As part of the campaign, the Indian Red Cross Society established two Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) booths, one at Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu and another at Red Cross Building, Srinagar. These booths served as important vaccination points where parents and caregivers brought their children to receive the life-saving drops. Team Red Cross including Dr. Rita Kumari, Dr. Manpreet Kour, Medical Officers assisted by Balbir Singh, Sup. Lab Technician, Joginder Kumar, Pharmacist, Smt. Mohna Devi, FMPHW and Raj Pal, chowkidar in coordination with health department officials, ensured smooth conduct of the vaccination process and proper guidance to beneficiaries. To further strengthen the campaign and leave no child unprotected, extensive house-to-house vaccination and follow-up activities were conducted on 29th and 30th June, 2026. Teams of trained Red Cross volunteers and frontline health workers visited residential areas, identified children who had missed the dose on National Immunization Day, and facilitated their vaccination. More than 241 children were immunized in both the centres. During the outreach activities, volunteers also engaged with parents and guardians, sensitizing them about the importance of repeated polio vaccination and addressing myths and misconceptions related to immunization. The community response remained encouraging, reflecting growing awareness and trust in public health programs. The Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu & Kashmir, continues to play a vital role in supporting government-led health initiatives through volunteer mobilization, awareness generation, and last-mile outreach. The Society remains steadfast in its mission to serve humanity and contribute towards building a healthier, safer, and polio-free future for all children. |
