| RRC reviews development works in migrant camps, budgetary provisions for 2026-27 | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 2: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) Dr Arvind Karwani to review ongoing development works in the migrant camps at Jammu, including migrant schools, dispensaries and community halls, and to take stock of budgetary provisions made by various government departments for the financial year 2026-27.
The Commissioner reviewed the status of basic amenities including drinking water, power supply and sanitation in the camps. Works worth over ?100 crore have been approved by the Government recently, including about ?82 crore for repair and renovation of assets in the camps, with tender work in progress. Five bore wells are to be commissioned by the end of the month, along with renovation of more than two dozen hand pumps, while the multi-purpose community hall at Jagti, estimated at Rs 6.5 crore, is to be completed by the end of the month.
On the water shortage at Jagti, Dr Karwani directed immediate deployment of water tankers fitted with specialised motors, and for the long term, directed preparation of a DPR on priority and regular water quality testing through two independent agencies. Officers concerned were directed to examine and project demand for maintenance of schemes.
The Deputy Commissioner Relief and Assistant Commissioners Relief were asked to ensure regular visits to their assigned camps as per roster, monitor development works and attend to grievances. Dr Karwani also asked officers to ensure adherence to recent General Administration Department directions assigning responsibilities for Transit Migrant Camps in Jammu and Kashmir to various government departments.
Among those present were Executive Engineers/Assistant Executive Engineers of the Jal Shakti Department, Public Works Department (R&B), UEED and Jammu Power Development Corporation. |
