| PC in Srinagar today | | | Agencies New Delhi, June 10: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will leave for Srinagar on Thursday morning for a detailed review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. During his two-day visit, he is scheduled to meet the Governor, the Chief Minister and other State Ministers. He will also attend a meeting of the Unified Command. The Home Minister will also discuss with the State Government issues relating to the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir. This will be the first visit of Chidambaram to Jammu and Kashmir after installation of the new Government at the Centre. Meanwhile, a day ahead of the Home Minister’s visit, a Core Group Meeting was held at Nagrota today by the General Officer Commanding 16 Corps and Security Advisor Lieutenant General RK Swamy. The meeting was attended by senior Civil, Police, Paramilitary and Army Officers which included IG Police, Jammu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, IG CRPF, IG BSF, Joint Dir IB and other officials. General Officers Commanding of various formations affiliated to 16 Corps were also present for the meeting. The meeting reviewed the security situation in Jammu region in light of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra. The Security Advisor complimented the security forces, intelligence agencies and civil administration for achieving a high degree of synergy and coordination in efficiently handling the Internal Security situation during the recently concluded Parliamentary Elections. He stated that there is a need to be more vigilant in view of the volatile situation across the border and the possibility of terrorists attempting to disrupt the existing peace in the region. On reviewing the situation, the Security Advisor Lieutenant General RK Swamy, AVSM, VSM reiterated that the downward slide in terrorism was attributed to the high degree of dedication and cohesiveness amongst all the security agencies in the state. He added that the Zero Tolerance for Human Right Violations by security forces must continue to be ensured at all costs with conduct of all operations must be as joint operations. He added that all areas must be appropriately sanitised in view of the ensuing Amarnath Yatra. The meeting ended on the note of maintaining continuous pressure on the terrorists to ensure that complete peace is maintained in the region.
