JAMMU, July 04: Inmates of Jagti Migrant Camp on Saturday staged a protest outside the Relief Office at Jagti against the Jal Shakti Department over non-supply of drinking water to the camp for several days. Raising slogans, the protesters, including women and elderly, blocked the main road leading to the township, disrupting traffic. They alleged that erratic water supply amid rising temperatures has made daily life difficult. Protesters said repeated appeals to authorities yielded no result, forcing them to take to the streets. They demanded immediate restoration of regular water supply and deployment of tankers till the issue is resolved. The demonstration, led by Sunil Pandita and Pyare Lal, urged Relief authorities to take immediate steps to restore drinking water supply in Jagti camp. The protest was called off after officials assured the agitators that the matter would be taken up on priority. |
