JAMMU, July 4: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President, Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta today chaired a review meeting of the party's provincial body, comprising office-bearers, legislators, Zonal Office bearers, heads of various wings, District Presidents and District Office bearers including Block Presidents to review the arrangements for the observance of the death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah on July 12th at Maharaja Hari Singh Park opposite Hotel Fortune and the Delhi protest march scheduled for the First Day of monsoon Session of Parliament.
Chairing the meeting, Gupta said that the National Conference's Jammu Provincial Unit would participate wholeheartedly in the Delhi protest march. He informed that the annual death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah would be observed at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, opposite Fortune Hotel, on the banks of the River Tawi, where a large public gathering will be addressed by the party's Vice President and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
Interacting with the party office-bearers, Gupta said that the rank and file of the National Conference across Jammu Province are fully geared up for the Delhi protest march to remind the BJP-led Government at the Centre of its commitment to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He added that extensive preparations are also underway to ensure the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah is observed on a grand scale in Jammu.
Meanwhile, the party's Additional General Secretary, Ajay Sadhotra, criticised the BJP over the continued delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He termed the Centre's repeated assurances on the issue as "hypocritical" and said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting for the fulfilment of the promise made by the BJP-led government. He asserted that the Delhi protest march would send a strong message demanding the immediate restoration of full statehood to the Union Territory.
