JAMMU, July 5: The Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the Sixth Sikh Guru, was celebrated with profound religious devotion, spiritual fervour and enthusiasm across the region today. The main religious congregation was organized by the District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu at Gurudwara Chathi Patshahi Tahli Sahib, where a large number of devotees from different parts of Jammu paid obeisance and participated in the day-long celebrations.
The programme commenced with the melodious rendition of Gurbani Kirtan by the eminent Hazoori Ragi Jathas of DGPC Jammu, including Bhai Harpreet Singh Chohala Ji, Bhai Davinder Singh Ji and Bhai Ranjeet Singh Ji, whose devotional Shabads filled the atmosphere with spirituality and inspired the Sangat to reflect upon the teachings of the Sikh Gurus.
The congregation was further blessed by the presence of Bhai Gurdev Singh Ji, Hazoori Ragi of Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, whose soul-stirring Kirtan deeply moved the devotees. Eminent Sikh preacher Bhai Harpal Singh Ji, a renowned Parcharak from Fatehgarh Sahib, delivered an enlightening discourse on the life and philosophy of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. He highlighted that the Sixth Guru not only upheld righteousness and protected the oppressed with unmatched courage but also laid the foundation of the doctrine of Miri-Piri, harmoniously blending temporal authority with spiritual leadership. The celebrated Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Mandeep Singh Ji, Ludhiana, enthralled the Sangat with inspiring ballads recounting the sacrifices, valour and glorious legacy of the Sikh Gurus.
The arrangements and overall management of the celebrations were supervised by the office-bearers and members of DGPC Jammu, including S. Balvinder Singh, Vice President; S. Ranvir Singh, Joint Secretary; S. Jagpal Singh, Treasurer; S. Tejinder Singh; S. Gurmeet Singh; S. Avtar Singh; Sdn. Harpreet Kour, President; S. Manmohan Singh, Secretary; and other committee members, whose coordinated efforts, along with dedicated sewadars and volunteers, ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
On the occasion, S. Ranjeet Singh Tohra, President, DGPC Jammu, extended warm greetings to the Sangat and called upon the Sikh community to emulate the ideals of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji by strengthening unity, selfless service and commitment to Sikh values. He also highlighted the major achievements of DGPC Jammu during its four-year tenure and expressed gratitude to the Sangat, volunteers, donors, media representatives and all those whose wholehearted cooperation contributed to the grand success of the celebrations.
Surjeet Singh, General Secretary, conducted the stage proceedings and, while presenting the vote of thanks, expressed sincere appreciation to the Sangat, sewadars, volunteers and supporters. He made special mention of the dedicated services rendered by Sdn. Harpreet Kour, S. Manmohan Singh, S. Rajinder Singh, S. Harmeet Singh, S. Jasmeet Singh Mehta and their entire team for their invaluable contribution in making the Parkash Purab celebrations a memorable success.
Free Sikh religious literature stalls, including one by the Self Educational Trust, Sikh Missionery College Ludhiana Circle Jammu, were set up for devotees. Chhabil (sweetened drinking water) and Guru Ka Langar were served throughout the day, reflecting the timeless Sikh traditions of equality, selfless service and universal brotherhood.
