| Padamshree Dr Vaid delivers lecture at Sainik School | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 11: Head Medical Oncology, Artemis Health Institute Gurgaon, Padamshree Dr Ashok Kumar Vaid today delivered a lecture on `Understanding and Identifying the Components of Adolescence and Development’ in the ongoing All India In-service Teachers Training Programme at Sainik School Nagrota, near here. Alumni of Sainik School Nagorta, who passed out in 1977, Dr Vaid spoke in length about cognitive, behavioral, emotional and romantic development of school children during their adolescent age. He said, “Most of the 40 per cent problematic students in school suffer from inferiority complex, which leads to academic difficulties”. He gave a mantra of `regardless and nevertheless’ to the listening teachers for improving the quality of their students. Dr Vaid said, “The time is changing and so the teaching techniques. With the increase in communication skills, the students can cope-up with the adolescent problems”. While advising the teachers to be career guide, he laid stress on making appropriate rules in mentoring the kids, respecting their privacy and maintaining the expectations by being oneself in a child’s place. “The concept of teaching has entirely changed and corporal punishment to the students is a thing of past. A teacher should have innovative ways to convince the under performing students rather then getting into arguments,” he said. He unfolded many stories related to his school days and divulged before the gathering of teachers his way of doing things as a student. Earlier, Principal of the School, Group Captain Ajay Kumar introduced the visiting dignitary, Dr Vaid and also complimented him for achieving the milestone of becoming the only Padamshee student of the Sainik School Nagorta.
