9/25/2006 9:17:19 PM

Srinagar, Sept, 25, 06 Throwing all the unverified reports and speculations about a possible ceasefire between the militants and troops in restive Kashmir during Ramadan to the winds, a grenade blast on the very first day of holy month, Monday, resulted in the killing of a lady constable, while injuring three other police personnel at about 1330 hours in the heart of Srinagar.
At around 1330 hours, an unidentified lobber tossed a grenade towards a vehicle of Women's Police Station near busy Jehangir Chowk, injuring four police personnel including two lady cops. However, the Station House Officer of Police Station escaped unhurt. Later, a lady constable identified as Gulshan hailing from Ganderbal succumbed to her injuries in the hospital
Confirming the death of lady constable Gulshan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, S A Mujtaba told 'KIP' that four police personnel were injured when unidentified militants tossed a grenade towards a Police gypsy. "Among the four injured, a lady constable Gulshan succumbed to her injuries later," Mr Mujtaba said.
Injured police personnel were immediately removed to the SMHS hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger. Among the four police personnel battling in a pool of blood, an injured lady constable–being carried on a hospital stretcher, was worried and wanted to contact her relatives on mobile phone. She was helped by Station House Officer, Karan Nagar Police Station, Mustaq Ahmad to contact her parents, after which she heaved a sigh of relief.
No militant outfit has so far owned responsibility of the attack.
