Early Times Report

Jammu, July 8: The 50th Foundation Day of the Beas–Sutlej Link (BSL) Project was celebrated with great dignity at Pandoh Dam by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on 07 July 2026.
On this occasion, the Hon’ble Chairman, BBMB, Er. Manoj Tripathi, Member (Irrigation), and other senior officers paid floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial in honour of those who made the supreme sacrifice during the construction of the project. This was followed by the performance of a Havan and traditional prayers at the dam site. Addressing the gathering, the Chairman emphasized the need to adopt modern technology and mechanization in the operation and maintenance of Pandoh Dam in view of the evolving environmental challenges. He informed that, as part of this initiative, modern Log Boom Barriers and Trash Rack Cleaning Machines are being installed to effectively manage and remove floating debris entering the dam. In addition, the modernization of the Dehar Power House is also underway.
The Chairman stated that BBMB is not only committed to power generation but is also fulfilling its social responsibilities by contributing to the development of hospitals, schools, and other essential infrastructure. He further described the Government of India’s proposed plan to divert water from the Chenab River to the Beas River as a significant initiative that would greatly benefit farmers, industries, and the general public.
The programme concluded with the Chairman planting a sapling at the BBMB Guest House, Pandoh, conveying a strong message of environmental conservation and sustainable development.
