| AJHLA apprehensive over conduct of ‘yatra’ on due date | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 11: All Jammu and Hotels and Lodges Association has expressed its serious concern over uncertainty over the commencement of Baba Amarnath Yatra. Although the annual Hindu pilgrimage was originally scheduled to start from June 7 and last till Raksha bandhan on August 6, was rescheduled to commence from June 15 in view of reported heavy snow on the track to the cave shrine, the reports emanating from certain quarters suggest that there may be further postponement of the start of yatra, hoteliers association has pointed out. In a meeting of hoteliers association held here today under the chairmanship of its president Inderjeet Khajuria and attended among others by Ajay Gupta, HS Manhas, Pawan Gupta, Baldev Raj, Sunil Suri and Vikramjeet Singh has observed that the uncertainty in the matter is creating unrest among the devotees and the business community with pilgrimage and all other who in one way or the other have stake in the pilgrimage. This is giving rise to apprehensions that the SASB and the government are not taking the matter seriously and also are trying to accommodate the anti yatra elements in Kashmir, who opposed to two month long duration of yatra, taking the alibi of its adverse affect on the environment and ecology. The shrine board and the government should have taken steps on war footing to clear the snow well before the scheduled commencement of yatra. But the failure to do so is giving rise to doubts in the minds of the people at large and particularly the stake holders in the pilgrimage about non seriousness and insensitiveness of the concerned authorities towards people’s sentiments.
