Early Times Report AKHNOOR, July 9: In a significant push towards strengthening civic infrastructure, MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal Bhagat on Thursday laid the foundation stone for development works worth ?4.95 crore at Nirdosh Chowk, Akhnoor. The project, sanctioned under the Disaster Management Scheme (SASCI), envisages the construction and repair of lanes, drains, roads, protection walls, iron gratings and other allied civic infrastructure across various locations within the Municipal Committee Akhnoor. The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Director, Urban Local Bodies Jammu, Kapil Sharma (JKAS). Addressing the gathering, Mohan Lal Bhagat said that the initiative has been taken to restore and strengthen the town's infrastructure, which suffered extensive damage during last year's floods. He said the project would significantly improve civic amenities and enhance the quality of life for the residents of Akhnoor. The MLA urged citizens to actively monitor the execution of the works and immediately report any compromise in quality or irregularities to him or the concerned department. He emphasized that public participation is essential to ensure transparency, accountability and quality in developmental projects. Highlighting the Government's long-term vision for Akhnoor, Bhagat announced that the modernisation of the Akhnoor Bus Stand, rejuvenation and beautification of ponds and parks, and road widening from Jia Pota to the Old Bridge will also be undertaken in the coming months. He further informed that two tourism projects at Jia Pota Ghat are already under execution by the Tourism Department. He said sustained efforts are being made to establish Akhnoor as a major tourist destination. As part of these initiatives, the District Administration Jammu, under the Raahi Hope programme during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, is facilitating visits of pilgrims to Jia Pota Ghat, Akhnoor Fort, Pandav Gufa and Ambaran to showcase the region's rich historical, cultural and religious heritage. Speaking on the occasion, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu Kapil Sharma said that nearly ?5 crore is being invested in strengthening civic infrastructure in Akhnoor town and several more development projects have already been sanctioned and will commence shortly. |
