| Imposition of section 144, to foil Pulwama march | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar: Tight security restrictions are likely to be imposed in Valley on Friday in wake of the ‘Pulwama Chalo’ march announced by the Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani last week. Geelani had issued a week long- protest programme in which he had urged people to visit south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where pro-freedom leaders will address the gathering. State authorities have decided to choke the Pulwama march called by Geelani and supported by the parallel faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. They said section 144 will be imposed to prevent people from assembling in large numbers, informed sources and added "Section 144, followed by restrictions can be expected tomorrow. Intense restrictions are likely to be imposed in the old city and other volatile areas of Srinagar," "The roads leading to Pulwama will be blocked and the forces will be deployed in large numbers in the district,” they added. A senior official of the district administration, wishing not to be named told that necessary steps to maintain law and order situation in wake of the Pulwama march will be taken. If needed, he said restrictions will be imposed in many districts of the Valley. "The police will take the necessary steps to maintain law and order in the valley. Section 144 will be in force to prevent huge gatherings. If need be, restrictions will be imposed,” the official said. CRPF Spokesman, Prabhakar Tripathi told that his force is ready to assist the state administration to maintain law and order situation in the state. He said that the decision of imposing declared or undeclared curfew lies with the state administration. "The administration has not announced the imposition of curfew so far. Whatever decision the state administration takes we will cooperate with them," Tripathi said, adding "CRPF is always ready to assist the state government in maintaining law and order," he added.
