| Tribute to Madar-e-Meharban, call for statehood restoration | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 11: On the death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, Provincial Joint Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Ankush Abrol, and Zonal Secretary & Coordinator, Central Zone, Dr. Vikas Sharma, launched a week-long special plantation drive by planting saplings at Muthi. The leaders announced that saplings would also be planted at various locations across Jammu over the coming week in her cherished memory, promoting environmental conservation while paying tribute to her invaluable contributions to society. Speaking on the occasion, Ankush Abrol said that a massive public programme will be held tomorrow at Hari Singh Park, Jammu, where the demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir will be strongly reiterated. He said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been patiently waiting for the restoration of their democratic rights and identity, adding that the struggle for statehood will continue until this long-pending demand is fulfilled. He further announced that, following the Jammu programme, a protest demonstration will also be organised at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to further intensify the movement. Abrol appealed to people from all walks of life, particularly the youth, to participate enthusiastically in both programmes and make them a grand success. Paying rich tributes to Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, Dr. Vikas Sharma said that she dedicated her entire life to public service, social welfare and the empowerment of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the plantation drive symbolises respect for her inspiring legacy as well as a commitment to protecting the environment for future generations. Dr. Sharma also urged the people to actively support the movement for the restoration of statehood, stating that a strong, united and aware public voice is essential to safeguard the democratic aspirations and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. |
