| Chidambram asks to submit status of 26 Bns of JKAP | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 12 Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has directed the state police to submit a comprehensive report within a short span giving details of deployment of at least 26 batallions of J&K Armed police across the state. Highly placed official sources who also attended meeting of the unified command in Srinagar on Thursday revealed during his discussion with the senior police officials Chidambaram wanted to know the deployment pattern of 26 batallions of state armed police. Official sources revealed Chidambaram was looking for a feedback from the state police officials why at all they have to bank on para military troops for routine duties in Kashmir valley. During the meeting Chidambaram had made it clear that the centre would like the state police to play the primary role in maintaining law and order across the state. It is learnt that senior home ministry officials who accompanied Chidambaram to the state during his two day visit had suggested that if state police force can pool in its resources judiciously by way of proper man management several para military companies can be relocated by handing over the law and order duties to the state police forces. During the high level meeting the union home ministry officials were apprised by the state police force that in view of the prevailing security scenario in the state large number of state police force was deployed on security duties and if a fresh review is conducted it would enable state police force to free large number of its men from the ordinary duties.
