| Jammu police foils bovine smuggling bid; 24 bovines rescued, truck seized | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 15: Continuing its sustained crackdown against bovine smuggling under Operation Kamdhenu, Jammu (Rural) Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt during the intervening night and rescued 24 bovine animals at Ban Toll Plaza falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nagrota. During naka checking at Ban Toll Plaza, a police party intercepted a truck bearing registration No. JK02DG-1123. On inspection, the vehicle was found carrying 24 bovine animals that were being transported in a cruel and inhumane manner without obtaining the requisite permission from the competent authority. All 24 bovine animals were rescued safely on the spot and the truck was seized for legal action. However, the driver managed to flee from the spot under the cover of darkness. In this connection, FIR No. 177/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. Investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver. Jammu (Rural) Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against bovine smuggling and remains committed to taking stringent legal action against all those involved in such illegal activities to safeguard animal welfare and maintain law and order. |
